Government stops ads to Jagan Media
State gave advertisements worth `240 cr to Sakshi since 2008..

HYDERABAD: Two days after the CBI froze bank accounts, the state government, late on Wednesday night, issued orders stopping advertisements to Sakshi newspaper and television channel. By GO No. 2097, information and public relations commissioner RV Chandravadan, who is also ex-officio secretary to the state government, said the decision was taken in public interest in the wake of the CBI filing a chargesheet in court against both the media firms in connection with Jagan Mohan Reddy assets case.The advertisement support given by the state government to the newspaper and the television channel since their inception in 2008 was Rs 130 crore and Rs 110 crore respectively, officials said.The GO issued last night directed all the the state government departments, agencies, state public sector undertakings, corporations and organisations not to release advertisements or notifications to the newspaper and the TV channel until charges against them are cleared.Though stopping advertisement support is said to be hanging in the balance for sometime, the chief minister reportedly took the decision late on Wednesday night after taking into consideration the fact that he CBI had filed a chargesheet in the court.
