New Delhi: The fourth round of talks between the Rajasthan government and Gurjar leaders to find a solution to the quota imbroglio was inconclusive on Friday night, but the two sides will return for a "final round" on Saturday.
"The final round of talks will be held with Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Saturday at around 1300 hours, to find an amicable solution to the issue," Digamber Singh, chief of the four-member ministerial committee representing the government, said.
The state government wanted to sort out the matter but due to Friday’s clashes in Lalsot between Gurjars and Meenas, in which four persons were killed, the meeting was delayed, Singh said.
Meanwhile, Roop Singh, head of the Gurjar delegation, said, "It would be a real final round of talks, and if after that nothing comes out, it will be the sole responsibility of the state government to face the consequences."
Roop Singh claimed the BJP government dithered to offer any solution to their demand because of the clashes that erupted between Gurjars and Meenas.
Home Minister G C Kataria, who participated as a special invitee, said the state government really wanted to address the Gurjars' issue but the Meena-Gurjar clash "dampened the spirit"
"But hope for the best tomorrow," he added.
Talking to PTI, one of the Gurjar representatives, requesting anonymity, claimed that last night Kataria assured them to hand over the recommendation letter on the ST status but due to stiff opposition from Meena MLAs and Ministers, the government "developed a cold feet" on Friday night.
Gurjar dominated pockets in Haryana and Delhi too witnessed protest for the second day on Friday with police firing in the air after a crowd of about 200 people had blocked the Delhi-Faridabad highway and set a police jeep on fire in the Ankhir Chowk area.
Protestors also blocked Sohna-Faridabad Road at Pali and Bahri areas in the Faridabad district of Haryana. On Thursday, a group of people set ablaze a Haryana Roadways bus which was on its way to Delhi besides blocking roads at several places in the district.
So far 27 people including some policemen have died in the violence that erupted first on Tuesday and has now engulfed many parts of the state. Even neighbouring states have reported protests by the Gurjars.
