Mumbai: The shooting of a film based on the life of former South African skipper Hansie Cronje, who died in an aircrash, is set to be shot in this metropolis.
'Hansie' will be filmed in the coming days and a huge crew is ready to descend here, according to marketing manager Peter Morgan with whom Cricketnext.com got in touch.
"We shall reach Mumbai on Friday and shoot at various places for a few days," said Morgan about the film on a player who was venerated before he faced allegations of match-fixing, pleaded guilty and got a life-ban.
Frank Rautenbach will play Cronje while Sarah Thomspon will play his wife Bartha in the film, which was also to be shot at Kolkata but the plans seem to have changed a little.
"It would be a challenge to play the part of Cronje and it is the kind of role that any actor seeks," said Rautenbach. "It is a great honour for me to be offered the part of such a legendary South African."
Rautenbach, who played cricket at school and club levels, was a batsman and part-time bowler.
"Apart from my playing days, I have been an avid fan of cricket all my life. In fact, I was disappointed when I heard that there was match-fixing in the game and Hansie was involved with bookmakers. But I still look at him as a hero because even after he lost his career and credibility he was still able to pick up the pieces and start all over again," he added.
The film will be shot with highly advanced cameras including a 'state-of-the-art' camera called the 'Phantom, only 10 of which are in the world right now.
