Happy 48th birthday AR Rahman: The ultimate playlist
As the double Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman turns a year older, we bring you a playlist of his popular songs.

New Delhi: AR Rahman, who turns 48 today, was born as AS Dileep Kumar. The singer-composer changed his name to AR Rahman at the age 23. Also referred to as 'The Mozart of Madras', Rahman kicked off his music career with a bang with 'Roja' back in 1992.

A journey soon began which made Rahman's name the most respected in the music industry in a very limited time. Through films like 'Bombay', 'Taal' and 'Lagaan', AR Rahman began a process which also brought the Indian film music closer to the world music. It was 'Slumdog Millionaire' that changed the entire scenario when AR Rahman established the importance of Indian classical in Hollywood.

Rahman joined forces with Rolling Stones legend Mick Jagger on SuperHeavy, a supergroup also featuring Joss Stone, Dave Stewart and Damian Marley. An Honorary Fellow of the Trinity College of Music, Rahman is a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, and was named as one of the 'World's Most Influential People' by Time in 2009.
