A 30-year-old woman on Sunday killed her two daughters before committing suicide by jumping into a well at Naskal village in Parigi in Ranga Reddy district.
Lakshmi took the step allegedly after she was humiliated by police officials who summoned her in connection with a theft case involving her husband.
Soon after residents noticed the three bodies floating in a well, they alerted the police and started to protest.
Villagers, led by local political leaders, conducted a rasta-roko on the Parigi main road demanding immediate suspension of the officials who interrogated Lakshmi.
Senior police officials have ordered a probe into the issue after registering a case against Parigi inspector Siva Shanker.
Shanker, however denied the allegation and said they never called Lakshmi to the police station.
Shanker told Express that they had arrested three persons including Lakshmi’s husband Raju in connection with a theft case.
“During interrogation, Raju and the other accused, Ramu and Baba, confessed to the crime.
We recovered stolen cash worth Rs 30,000 and gold ornaments.
The accused were brought before the court and were sent to remand a few days ago.
After producing the accused before the court, why should we question their wives?” Shanker asked.
Meanwhile, people opposed removal of bodies from the well without officials taking action against the cops.
