HC raps defence on Mattoo DNA result
The Delhi HC says it's sceptical over arguments put forward by the defence over the veracity of the DNA results.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday said it was sceptical over arguments put forward by the defence counsel over the veracity of the results of the DNA tests in the Priyadarshini Mattoo rape and murder case.

Main accused Santosh Singh's counsel, R K Naseem, said the doctor who conducted the DNA tests at CCMD Laboratory in Hyderabad, Dr G V Rao, had admitted that certain procedural errors might have occurred during the analysis.

However, the division bench comprising Justices R S Sodhi and P K Bhasin said, ''The deductions are yours and not the doctor's. It is

not a way to cross-examine the doctor.''

Naseem questioned Dr Rao's integrity saying there were certain contradictions in his statement. He alleged that in his earlier statement, the doctor had claimed that the blood samples of accused bore a seal of the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Delhi.

However, he later admitted that the seal of the RML was not discernible, Naseem added.

The defence counsel further said that this indicates that the samples had been tampered with.

He alleged that blood samples of the accused that were sent for DNA testing on February 2 to the CCMD in Hyderabad was found to be less by eight ml of the original sample.

He accused the CBI of having withdrawn that amount of blood from the original sample and said they used it to sprinkle it on the vaginal swab and vaginal slides of the victim to falsely implicate his client.
