KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday dismissed an appeal filed by the British-born Israeli writer Susan Nathan against the quit notice issued by the Kozhikode police. Earlier the Single Bench had upheld the quit notice issued the state police. The court observed that quite a lot of adverse incriminating circumstances have been pointed out against Susan Nathan, and the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a lookout circular against her. The petitioner did not even challenge the circular, the court held. The police report said the intentions of the petitioner to stay in India were to complete the translation of her book ‘The Other Side of the Israel’. “The poet was about to publish the book with the help of a publishing house based in Kozhikode that dealt mainly with Islamic literature. During the investigation of palm-chopping case, raids were conducted at this unit. It was suspected that Muslim fundamentalist organisations like SIMI and NDF were aiding this publishing house,” the police report said. Advocate-General K P Dhandapani opposed the plea of Susan Nathan and pointed out that the writer had violated visa rules. A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon observed that this was not a fit case to interfere.
