The cloudburst in Leh has left a trail of death and destruction. The death toll has climbed to 200. As relief efforts are on, here’s what you can do to help rehabilitate the victims.

Non-governmental organisation ‘Save The Children’ appeals for donations to support relief efforts in Leh and villages around. You can call or SMS +91 88986-19953/ + 91 98113-20906.

According to a Save The Children spokesperson, the following are the critical needs:

• 5000 blankets are required to keep children, women and other family members warm as homes have been damaged and the weather conditions are poor

• 5000 household utility kits are necessary to ensure families are able to prepare basic meals

• 5000 hygiene kits are needed to help reduce the risk of illness.

• Tarpaulines, medical assistance, etc are some of the other critical needs

An appeal from the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council:

In order to prevent the wider public from being defrauded of their hard earned money, we appeal to the people to provide their donations directly to the CEC Relief Fund or to agencies authorised by the office of the Chief Executive Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh. All monies contributed to the fund will be used towards the rehabilitation of the people displaced by the disaster. The donations may be sent by cheque or through bank transfers to the “CEC Relief Fund” payable into the current account of the fund with J&K Bank Limited, Leh (www.jkbank.net), numbered CG-128. In case you are transferring money from a foreign country, kindly write to us at the email address mentioned below for transfer details or obtain them from the bank’s website.
