HYDERABAD : Th e Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) will try to complete pending rain water harvesting pits during the second phase of the 100-day action plan beginning next month, HMWS&SB managing director Adhar Sinha said.Addressing the one-day workshop on Rain Water Harvesting here on Friday, Sinha said the board will take the support of the State Ground Water Department for construction of RWHS pits. The water board had collected over Rs. 15 crore as advance from about 15,000 consumers to build RWHS pits in the last last five years but failed to construct them.Chief engineer of the Central Water Commission, Hyderabad, VN Wakpanjar said there was an urgent need to tap rain water as demand for water was increasing in cities due to population explosion. The water board is forced to bring water from various drinking water sources which are 100 km away from the city by investing huge amounts. “We have failed to tap rain water. It is high time that RWHS are constructed in large numbers. Otherwise, the situation will become grim in future. Tapping of rain water will also help in controlling urban flooding to a large extent,” Wakpanjar said.
