THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Anandapuri FM programme executive Biju Mathew has won first prize in the 12th Iran International Radio Festival competition for the work ‘Penkunju’. IRBI (Iran Radio) vice president Muhamed Hussain presented the award in the capital city of Tehran. The prize comprised $ 1,500 and a memento. He was also conferred a diploma in broadcasting.This is for the first time that a radio programme from Kerala bagged the coveted honour beating 288 radio programs from 30 countries and 511 from Iran.The International Radio Festival of Iran is the biggest event in the Middle East and North Africa that receives large number of entries from radio stations and independent producers from around the globe. The jury chaired by renowned broadcaster Steve Ahern commented that ‘Penkunju’ has successfully portrayed the crises and abuses faced by a girl child. O Jayalakshmi has done the narration of the programme. Biju Mathew had earlier also won several other international awards.
