Hundreds take part in Deepakazhcha

ALAPPUZHA: Hundreds of faithful gathered at St Mary’s Forane church at Thanki, Cherthala, to observe Maundy Thursday and participate in the deepakazhcha on Thursday. Vicar Fr Xavier Chiramel led the Maundy Thursday prayers. The main lamp for the deepakazhcha was brought from the Rajarajeswari Temple, Kandamangalam. Union Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal inaugurated the deepakazhcha by lighting the lamp. Fr Antony Thachuthara presided over the function. Kandamangalam Devaswom president Purushan Manthura, Fr Xavier Chiramel, Aayiramthai Muslim Jamaat Imam Abdulla Latif Latifi and Cherthala SNDP union secretary Mohanan Karyattu spoke on the occasion.
