Hyderabad: The city of Nawabs and Charminar, the city of mouthwatering biryani will now also be known for the country's tallest building and longest flyover.-----
After Charminar and the Cyber Towers, Hyderabad will soon have another signature building. And it will also be the tallest structure in the country.
Andhra Pradesh government has earmarked a 97-acre site on the outskirts of the city for building a 60-storey trade tower.
It will house corporate firms, star hotels and entertainment theatres.
The shape of the proposed tower is yet to be finalised.
According to officials, a final decision is yet to be taken on whether to have a single structure or have twin towers like Petronas Towers of Malaysia.
A three-member team of officials has recently visited Kuala Lumpur to study Petronas Towers and another team is heading to Dubai to study similar towers being developed by Emmar Group.
Officials say the blue-print of this project would be ready in the next three months.
The government is keen on having the tower completed latest by 2008.
By this time the new international airport is likely to become operational. Also, country's longest flyover of 11.34 km will also be ready by the time.
"GMR airport group has given the concept for it. We want this to coincide with the airport inauguration. So in one year and six months, it will be completed," Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said.
Hyderabad Urban Development Authority, AP Housing Board and AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation have been asked to mobilise funds for these projects.
Each of these three bodies will generate about Rs 2,000 crore in the next two years by developing and selling land in the neighbouring districts of Hyderabad.
