New Delhi: Rohit Reddy, a three-year-old son of a software engineer couple who was abducted in Hyderabad on Tuesday evening, has been traced in Khammam.
Son of G Ravinder and Lalasa Reddy was abducted from a playground near his house in the Kondapur area. He was found at the roadside in Tekulapalli in Khammam district where his abductors left him.
The villagers who found the boy by the road took him to the police station.
"We are extremely happy. Our kid is back. We are excited. We spoke to him over phone. He is in the safe custody of
police," said Ravinder.
Police had said say the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs one crore.
"Rohit is safe and he will be handed over to parents soon," said Khammam SP to CNN-IBN.
Rohit's mother, Lalasa, had made an emotional appeal to release her son as he was suffering from fever and was prone to convulsions.
The incident has shocked IT sector employees, who have become potential targets now, given their large disposable incomes and high profile lifestyles.
The kidnapping comes barely two months after the abduction of a senior level employee of Satyam Computers, Vedula Satyanaraya. He was later set free by the kidnappers.
Rohit's father G Ravinder is with Cognizant Technologies, while his mother Lalasa is a software engineer with Satyam Computers.
In November last year, the kidnapping of Adobe CEO Naresh Gupta's son in Noida had created a flutter, particularly in IT circles. There were reports that a ransom was paid to secure the release of the child then.
