IAF deploys 8 aircraft at Kalka accident site
The IAF airlifted over 150 National Disaster Relief Force personnel and seven tonnes of relief material.

Allahabad: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed eight aircraft along with 180 army personnel for rescue and relief operations at the site of the derailment of the Kalka Mail in Uttar Pradesh.

According to IAF spokesperson, one IL-76 transport plane, two Avros, one Embraer, two MI-17s and two Chetak helicopters have been deployed along with heavy machinery and medical teams.

"Seven lives were saved including, that of a woman, and a Swedish national. More than 150-200 injured passengers were treated by army medical teams and 72 bodies of passengers were removed from the mangled mass of steel," he said.

The IAF airlifted over 150 National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) personnel and seven tonnes of relief material apart from railway officials.

Led by Major S Swain, the Army has moved one engineering column and equipment along with medical teams required for such a massive relief operation.
