About a dozen teachers from Bangalore University’s Centre for Kannada Studies staged a sit-down protest in front of vice-chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev’s central college chamber on Friday against the alleged illegal appointment made by him at the centre.
The agitated teachers sought the appointment of Dr C B Honnaiah in place of Dr K V Srinivasa Murthy as the chairperson of the centre. The agitators claimed that Dr Honnaiah is senior to Dr Murthy by two years, according to the seniority-list for the Bangalore centre of BU. They even claimed that BU did not have appropriate statutes for a common seniority-list, contrary to VC Prabhu Dev’s claims.
On June 8, Registrar (Administration) B C Mylarappa and VC Prabhu Dev issued separate appointment orders to Dr Honnaiah and Dr Murthy respectively.
Meanwhile, VC Prabhu Dev issued a statement citing the 108th meeting (by circulation) of the Syndicate, where it was resolved “to appoint Dr Ka Vem Srinivasa Murthy as the Director/Chairperson of the Centre for a period of two years by transferring his services from Kolar to Bangalore.”
