Finding a motorbike at an affordable price is quite challenging amid the inflated market prices of automobiles. It can cost up to lakhs. For a common man from a humble background, buying a bike poses serious financial difficulties. What if we tell you a bike is available for just Rs 50,000 in India. Wondering where? In Nandikotkur town of Nandyal district (Andhra Pradesh), there is Sri Giridhara – a bike showroom – by the side of KG road, which connects Kurnool to Atmakur. The bike showroom is of the Japanese company, Komaki, which has been set up. These electric bikes have a great battery life, which would require a single charge to cover long distances, depending upon the mileage.

Many people end up spending lakhs while buying bikes and are not aware of other brands in the market. For small-time businessmen or common man, a Komaki bike is comparatively cheaper and can help the buyer travel long distances with a single charge in a hassle-free manner.

Giridhar Reddy, manager of the showroom, said in an interview with Local18, “With just Rs 10, one can travel about 150 kilometres. If one wants to travel on a petrol bike, it would cost about Rs 300. Thus, if Rs 300 is spent every day, the monthly expense would be too high.” He further explained that if one wants to buy a new petrol bike, it would cost lakhs, whereas a Komaki bike will cost around Rs 50,000, which can cover the same distance at a very low cost, making it affordable.

As per the showroom manager, a majority of these battery-operated two-wheelers are in the market and bought by government employees from various fields, teachers and lawyers. He shared that most of the bikes had been bought from his showroom. Through word-of-mouth advertising, many others have been placing orders, or giving feedback to their family members and relatives about the vehicle, which has increased the sale.

May 2020 marks the inception of Komaki Group, which registered a staggering overall growth rate of 1,200 percent within 20 months of establishment. In March 2022, it had a turnover of Rs 301 crore. The company witnessed growth without depending on any government subsidy or bank loans. Komaki is among one of the few start-ups in the clean energy sector which has been minting profits consistently.
