The Tulu people worshipped the fallen Takode tree as it witnessed the birth of the famous twin warriors Sri Kanthabare and Boodabaare.

A tree was uprooted in Kollur village of Karnataka on Friday. Tensions rose around the incident as the tree was not an ordinary tree to the local community. Many studies have confirmed that the tree is 800 to 1000 years old.

The tree was uprooted, and it fell into the river beside it. The tree is considered to be the birthplace of Sri Kanthabare and Boodabaare in Kollur, Mulki taluk. According to the historical accounts of the region, Sri Kanthabare and Boodabaare were the most renowned and worshipped warriors. They were the lieutenants of the Mulki Savantha kings. The tree is believed to be the witness of the birth of Kanthabare and Boodabaare.

Legends say that they were born under this age-old tree. After the birth of the famous lieutenants, Kanthabare and Boodabaare, they were placed in a cradle and tied to the branch of the famous Takode tree.

According to the reports, the land acquisition process is also going on for industrial purposes in the region. People have raised concerns regarding saving the trees in the region. They have raised concerns saying that the widening of the roads is damaging the trees. The MESCOM labourers cut the branches of the trees unscientifically. Proper consultation with the forest or agricultural department is not done. In the rainy season, the old, massive trees are losing their balance and causing harm to pedestrians and motorists. Recently, a tree fell on a carpenter who was riding a motorcycle on the Belman to Nitte highway.

However, the Tulu people worshipped the fallen Takode tree as it witnessed the birth of the famous twin warriors. Many traditional acts centre on the tree, and people worship the Takode tree for the prosperity and safety of the Tulunad. After birth, children are weighed by tying cloth cradles to this tree.

The fall of the tree has created concerns and fear in the hearts of the local people. The Tulu people took the incident as a bad omen and anticipated something bad might happen as well. Hundreds of people from the locality and nearby regions came to visit the fallen tree for the last time to bid it farewell.
