New Delhi: For the first time, India and China will conduct joint army exercises, the codename for which is Hand-in-Hand.

Ninety-five troops from the Jammu and Kashmir light infantry flew into China from Guwahati on Wednesday to script a new beginning in military ties between the Asian giants.

Troops from the two sides will jointly conduct counter-terrorist drills at Kunming in Yunnan province.

Combined teams will simulate the storming of a terrorist stronghold and deal jointly with a hostage situation.

They will also fire from one another's weapons to build the capacity to operate as allies against terrorists.

The scenario includes the use of tanks and mortars. An official statement said that the two sides would train for joint operations against terrorists in the international arena.
