New Delhi: The Indian men's team has got a relatively easy draw in the Thomas Cup while their women counterparts run into tougher opponents in the elite badminton team championship for the Uber Cup.
India have been placed in Group C along with Hong Kong and Singapore for the Thomas Cup qualifiers starting on February 14 in Jaipur, according to the draw for the championship released on Tuesday.
In the Uber Cup, however, Indian women have been drawn against countries like Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Pakistan in Group Z.
"We face tougher teams in Uber Cup but in Thomas Cup we have fifty-fifty chance for qualifying for the finals." Indian Badminton Coach Vimal Kumar said.
The Thomas Cup draw has 13 countries divided into four groups while in the Uber Cup 10 Asian countries has been divided into two groups.
Winners of the four groups automatically qualify for the finals in Japan while the second placed teams would play-off for the fifth spot.
In the Uber Cup the top two teams qualify while the third placed teams from both groups play-off for the fifth slot.
Defending champion China and the hosts Japan have got a direct entry in the final round.
The finals would witness twelve teams including five from Asia, four from Europe, one team each from Africa, Pan America and Oceania.
