Kuala Lumpur: An Indian national, who is a permanent resident of Singapore, was rescued from the wreckage of his plane six hours after it crashed in the Gunung Pulai forest reserve in Malaysia.
It was a miraculous escape for Sanjay Purushottam, 40, a senior bank officer, who was found trapped in the two-seater Cessna, with only a fractured right leg and a bruised right eye.
Sanjay, originally from New Delhi, was spotted by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
His plane was found nose down with the tail lodged in the branches of a tree, The Star newspaper said on Wednesday.
It was too dark for helicopters to airlift him and the dense forest cover of Gunung Pulai made it impossible for him to be taken out on foot.
Paramedics treated him on site until he was airlifted.
Sanjay was treated at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital before he was transferred to Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
Sanjay's plane, believed to be from the Elite Flying Club, went missing after taking off from Senai airport at around 0940 hours IST on Monday while heading for the Batu Berendam airport in Malacca.
The Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation said Sanjay had asked for permission to turn back due to strong wind. The Senai traffic control tower lost contact with the plane at around 1015 hours IST.
Sanjay's friend and colleague Ravi Abusaria, 35, said flying was a passion for Sanjay who regularly went to Johor Baru in southern Malaysia on weekends.
Sanjay's wife Shubdha Bhave, 35, declined to comment on the incident, the newspaper said.
