New Delhi: It was a New Year dance, with a difference. And it was dance the people of Varanasi would remember for many years to come.
A special moustache dance, it involved movement of the moustache in tune with the drum beat.
A resident of Varanasi, Rajan Kumar Tiwari can even make candles dance on his moustache. It’s an art that took him years to master.
Tiwari says his dance form is at par with classical dances like Kuchipudi, Kathak and Manipuri and expresses sadness over the lack of recognition for his unique talent.
"This is a kind of dance called Mooch Naach (moustache dance). In a sense, this is similar to the classical Kuchipudi, Kathak and Manipuri dances. The concept is based on the same lines as other classical dances," Tiwari told ANI.
"The government does nothing to preserve and develop such distinctive latent dance forms. It is only through the media that I have been able to reach out to the people so far, " ANI quoted him as saying.
