New Delhi: Milan Luthria has suddenly become a sought after director. Milan had started his career as director with 'Kachche Dhage' in the year 1999. The film with Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan in the lead was a good success at the box office but somehow Milan did not come up with any new film in the next four years.
Slowly and steadily Milan started to build his space in the industry and with 'Once Upon A Time', he cemented his position.
The promos of Luthria's next 'The Dirty Pictures' have created enough buzz and the film is looking all set to open with packed houses.
The success of 'The Dirty Picture' will help the director in drawing audiences to the cineplexes for his next venture 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2'.
If reports are to be believed than the makers are planning to release the film after IPL next year.
However, Milan and the producers Balaji Films have decided to pitch in Akshay Kumar as the ultimate don in the next edition of the underworld saga. This has come as a surprise decision as Akshay Kumar is not known for such underworld based roles.
Moreover, Ajay Devgn's power packed performance as Sultan Mirza has set a benchmark for the actors who are eyeing such roles. Emraan Hashmi was not as good as Devgn but he also had come up with a performance worth praise.
The earlier version was a story set in 70s while the second part will explore the wannabe don's story in 80s when he rules the crime umpire with an iron fist.
Basically the story between Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim is going to be replaced by a tale with Dawood and Chota Rajan in the middle.
The appearance of Akshay Kumar for the film was revealed at a star studded event recently where he tried to copy the style and mannerism of Sultan Mirza Ajay Devgn.
Somehow, he lacked the charm and aura that Ajay Devgn had carried in 'OUATIM'. It is anyway going to be difficult for Akshay to step into the shoes of Devgn with spring feet athletic body and an image baggage on shoulders.
In addition to it, Akshay Kumar has still not shown excellence in serious roles. An action hero who could do occasional comedy is the broader introduction of Kumar so far, and thus the makers need to work hard on his characterisation.
It's true that presenting a character on the big screen is an entirely different ballgame but one can't expect the audiences' to shed all the preconceived notions easily before watching any actor for the first time in a new avatar. Silly grins and exciting stunts might not work this time for Akshay and thus he also requires to focus extra hard on a meaty role which could be a turning point in his career too.
