BANGALORE: While Parappana Agrahara central prison officials shifted actor Darshan to a hospital soon after he complained of ill health, it appears that the same jail officers don’t maintain similar attitude towards a common man.A Nigerian national city-based student remained at the prison though he complained of health problems. The 22-year-old student soon died at the jail. The victim Okye Emmanuel Chira, a II-year student of BCA course at a college in Koramangala, was arrested by Vivekanagar police on the charges of producing bona fide documents.Chira was remanded to the prison on Monday night and was sent to barrack-44.As per the jail rules, the under-trails should be sent for medical test before giving an UTP number. If the prisoner is sick, he should be sent for a routine check up. Officials at Parappana Agrahara central prison did not let Chira undergo medical tests and directly sent him to the barrack, as the jail doctors had left the premises. As per rules, doctors have to be in the jail hospital on shift basis. However, the Parappana Agrahara does not have doctors for night shift. Jail inmates found Chira dead on Tuesday. But jail officials said that he was rushed to NIMHANS after he complained of chest pain but died on the way.
