CHENNAI: A Japanese food supplement, Nichi Cancure, that has been seen to boost the immune system and act as a deterrant against cancer, was launched for the first time in India, at Chennai on Tuesday. The product is primarily made of Beta Glucan derived from yeast. It is being imported by Nichi Vision Life Sciences (NVLS). "We are confident that this product will equip Indian women to fight against the rise of deadly cancers of the breast and cervix in India," said Dr Sabitha Baskar, Partner - NVLS.Research has shown that immune system boosting treatments have shown promising results in the fight against cancer. "Though it is only a foodsupplement, it has shown that it can increase the activity of natural killer cells (immune cells) by close to twenty percent, thus giving the cancer victim a better chance, even in advanced stages," she added. The product was introduced in Japan 10 years ago and has apparently been certified by the Japanese Ministry of Health.This product will be marketed throughout the city and subsequently the region through healthcare providers in a month's time. "It is is bland and tasteless," said a medical associate with the company but added that noflavours were used to keep the supplement as natural as possible. "The beta glucan we use is extracted from mushrooms," she also revealed. It is a little on the expensive side with a carton of 90 sachets costing Rs 35,000 while the recommended dosage is 3 sachets (2 grams each) a day.
