BHUBANESWAR: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Committee is hopeful of completing the counselling process in 35 days this year. The counselling process is expected to take about three days and the allotment another two weeks. Counselling for admission into the professional courses will begin in the second week of July although the exact date is yet to be announced. The process for the counselling will begin this week itself with the JEE body sending rank cards along with counselling brochures to all the rank holders. According to vice-chairman of JEE Committee Dr Sitaram Mohapatra, the nodal centres where the verification will take place would start functioning three days in advance. “The three days will be used as helpline for the candidates to get acquainted with the process of counselling which includes registration, preference indication and choice locking,” he said.As per the plans, the candidates would be assigned nodal centres closer to the centres where they had appeared for the JEE test. However, even if a student lands up at a centre different from what is assigned to him/her, he/she can still get the verification done there. The objective is to give the students user-friendly passage.Last year, the process had consumed than three months despite introduction of web-counselling. With large number of seats falling vacant, the private engineering colleges had raised objection to online counselling which they alleged created confusion in the minds of the students. Several rounds of counselling had followed the first one and even a common admission test was conducted by the colleges to draw in the students.
