BANGALORE: In a major jewellery theft case, a worker of jewellery shop escaped with gold and diamond jewels worth more than Rs 1 crore. The incident was reported in Aabushan Jewellers on KEB Road in Jayanagar third block on Friday.Sohanlal Kathri, a native of Rajasthan, was an employee at Aabushan Jewellers for eight months. According to the police, about 25 people work in the showroom. Sohanlal resided at showroom owner Vishal Bohra's residence in Basavanagudi.On Friday morning, Sohanlal reported to the showroom. Allegedly, he knew that the owner had a busy schedule on this day and he had planned to commit the theft from a few days. He had also asked the owner to pay his salary in advance and had received it.After Vishal left for home in the afternoon, he had siphoned off the diamond and gold jewels into his pockets . He had also put some jewels in a bag.Later, he left the showroom claiming he wanted to go out for lunch but did not return. At around 4 pm, the manager grew suspicious and checked if all the jewels were intact. When he noticed jewels were missing, he checked the CCTV footage and found Sohanlal stealing jewels."Sohanlal was introduced to the showroom owner by Anilkumar Kathri, who also works in the showroom. The owner did not know that Sohanlal had a criminal background. Our records revealed that earlier, Sohanlal was arrested by Mumbai police and he had been imprisoned. He was brought out on bail by Anilkumar," the police added.The police have formed various teams to nab the accused.
