CHENNAI: Former Assembly Speaker K Kalimuthu’s brother lodged a complaint with the Police Commissioner on Friday, alleging that four persons, including DMK chief M K Karunanidhi’s daughter Selvi and her relative Uma Maheshwari, cheated him of Rs 69 lakh after promising to make him a member of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
In his complaint, K Nallathambi, a former additional public prosecutor from Madurai, alleged that he approached Velachery area secretary Ravi and Selvi’s assistant Ramesh, after he got word that there were five vacancies for the post of TNPSC member. As one of the vacancies came under Selvi’s quota, Nallathambi was asked to shell out Rs 1 crore for it.
Nallathambi then gave Rs 69 lakh to Uma Maheshwari, the sister of Selvi’s son-in-law, in few instalments. However, five others were appointed as TNPSC members in 2010. “When I asked them to return my money, they said they would give me a chance to contest in the Assembly elections or a plum post in the party,” the complainant alleged.
When Nallathambi subsequently approached Ravi, he threatened him. On Friday, he lodged a complaint with the city police commissioner. Soon after, Uma Maheshwari lodged a counter complaint against Nallathambi. “I filed a counter complaint against Nallathambi,” Uma confirmed, while adding, “The allegations levelled against me are false."
