Kolkata: Kolkata produces the best of Indian cinema and is the country's cultural and literary hub, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan said this evening. "I really believe in the cinema of Bengal. We have some of the best cinema coming in from this part of the country," said 'King Khan' at the inauguration of the Kolkata Film Festival, the country's oldest.
He said, "I believe that the history of our arts, literature, poetry and films cannot be written, or ever begin without the state of West Bengal".
He said foreign delegates should take time off and explore the rich heritage of the metropolis besides watching films.
"Even by breathing here, you will go back richer in arts and culture," said the 46-year-old actor. Highly appreciative of the audience at Kolkata, he said
that artists all over the world always search for passionate people like Kolkatans.
"At a personal level, I have been visiting Kolkata regularly for the last 4-5 years. Now I am even trying to learn its language and read more books from here," he said.
Ever since Shah Rukh bought the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008, he has been taking special interest in Kolkata and never misses an opportunity to fly down.
Even though he charges a heft fee for shaking a leg at private weddings, the 'badshah' of Bollywood agreed to come down for KFF without charging a penny.
