Mumbai: Developers of Lavasa Hill City in Maharashtra have blamed Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh of malafide intent, claiming that the ministry's show cause notice was issued in haste and under pressure from activists to stall its IPO.
In their reply, Lavasa developers allege that Ramesh had malafide intent in serving the show cause notice and that it was issued in haste without following any principles of natural justice. The reply also hints at the pressure exerted by activists like Medha Patkar.
"The Minister and MOEF have displayed malafide intentions against the project and that critical facts related to the projects have been suppressed," the developers said.
The developers say "no hearing was given despite the Minister being alerted of allegations seven months back".
But the Environment Ministry said there were loopholes in Lavasa Corporation's reply to its notice for alleged violation of norms in its 25,000-hectares hill city project near Pune.
"There are some loopholes in Lavasa Corporation's reply," Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said in a statement.
The ministry "is studying it further and a response will be given within the stipulated time," it said. However, no timeline was given.
Lavasa Hill City is under the scanner over environment violations in the 25,000 hill city project near Pune.
