KOCHI: The residents of Kalamassery have come demanding measures for better connectivity to Kalamassery railway station. They pointed out that the Vallarpadam container terminal road should not be a hindrance to the development of the railway station. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Kalamassery Pourasamithi pointed out that without any underpass, the new road from Aluva would block entry to the railway station. Also, people from Kalamassery and Eloor will have to travel an additional distance of two kilometre to enter the railway station.“According to the existing plan, vehicles coming from Ernakulam will have to travel an additional distance to enter the railway station. Already, there are more than 200 goods vehicles moving in and out of the railway yard in Kalamassery. With these vehicles crossing the road, there are long traffic snarls on the National Highway,” the statement said. The Pourasamithi also pointed out the possibility of connecting the Vallarpadam road and the NAD road with a railway overbridge. This can have additional connectivity to the Seaport-Airport Road. The statement suggested that it would be a solution for the traffic snarls at Palarivattom, Edappally, North Kalamassery and Vyttila junctions. N A Mohammed Kutty has been selected as the new general convener of the Pourasamithi.
