Bengaluru: In what is possibly a major breakthrough, a scientist in Bengaluru claims to have invented a device that could make LPG using just water, vegetable oil and sunlight. Bengaluru's Scalene Energy Research Institute Chairman Dr Rajah Vijay Kumar says the device, known as Hydrodetector, is a specially designed reactor made after over 700 failed attempts.
According to Kumar, his invention could give subsidised cooking gas to thousands of households in India. The device costs anywhere between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 75 lakh and has a longevity of almost 25 years.
While the makers have registered for a patent, they are open to collaborating with government agencies and private players to take this invention to the real kitchens in the country
