To make quick money, a man in Kanpur bet his wife over an Indian Premier League match and lost her.
Reports suggested that the incident came to light after other men involved in the deal began harassing the women. She approached the police and social activists seeking justice.
The police have registered a case against the husband who is absconding. Police said the accused lost all his money in the share markets and then bet his wife to earn money.
The woman claimed that her husband has been harassing her for over 5 years.
"My husband is a gambler and I only found out about this much later. He bets on IPL matches and earlier he used to play and now he hosts bets. I have filed an FIR with the police in this regard," said the woman.
