Manu Sharma alleged before the Supreme Court on Wednesday that he did not get a fair trial because of the media pressure.

New Delhi: Manu Sharma, undergoing life term in Tihar jail on charges of killing ramp model Jessica Lall in April 1999, alleged before the Supreme Court on Wednesday that he did not get a fair trial because of the media pressure.

"The Delhi High Court judgement was not based upon the facts and evidence of the case," PTI quoted senior advocate Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Manu Sharma, as saying.

While arguing the case before a Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Ravinderan, Jethmalani said that the fact TV channels televised confessional statement of the accused on day-to-day basis influenced the court's decision.

"In such case, the judge should not have heard the case or should have postponed the hearing for few days," PTI quoted Jethmalani as saying.

Jethmalani added that the High Court's finding was erroneous as it had ignored the two weapon theory, which confirmed that two shots were fired at the site of incident from two different weapons.

Lall was shot dead on the night intervening April 29 and 30, 1999 at a party at Qutub Colonnade restaurant in south Delhi. A trial court had on February 21, 2006 acquitted all the nine accused for lack evidence.
