Mar Thoma Church Convention Begins

KOCHI: The Mar Thoma Church convention of the Kochi-Ernakulam-Aluva centre began at the Sharon Mar Thoma Church, Palarivattom, on Thursday.Rev Dr Sham P Thomas, in his speech, said that though we read many books, the one book that reads us is the Bible.It is the need of the hour that we should be read by the Bible, he said.Rev John John presided.Rev T S Philip, Rev Ninan Varghese, Thomas George and Mammen Mathai also spoke.A joint convention of the Evangelical Society and Sevika Sangham will be held at 10 am on Saturday and a youth meeting at 2.30 pm.Reji George and Thampan D George will speak.A joint worship of the Kochi-Ernakulam- Aluva centre will be held at the Sharon Church at 8 am on Sunday when Dr Mathews Mar Makarios Episcopa will lead the services.The bishop who takes over charge of the Kottayam- Kochi diocese will be given a reception on the occasion, according to publicity conveners Rev Nishad Isaac Chandy and Kuruvila Mathews.
