VIJAYAWADA: Here is good news to those seeking admission to MBBS course. The Medical Council of India has given permission for 150 additional MBBS seats in medical colleges in the state from this academic year.With this, the NTR University of Health Sciences is getting ready to conduct counselling for admissions to fill 4,850 MBBS seats from July 19. The MCI accorded permission for 100 seats in RIMS, Ongole and 50 medical seats in Katuru Medical College, Guntur. A decision on sanctioning 100 seats in GEMS, Srikakulam is pending. The university is going to fill 1,900 seats in 36 government colleges and 2,450 seats in 22 private colleges.In addition, 500 seats will be filled by minority institutions.Dr NTR University of Health Sciences will conduct counselling at four centres in the state. The counselling will be conducted for the first to 900 rank holders on July 19, 901 to 2400 ranks on July 20 and ranks 2401 to 6000 on July 21 for all categories of candidates.Counselling for seats in the reserved categories will commence on July 22 for ranks 1 to 2,600, on July 23 for ranks 2601 to 5500, on July 24 for ranks 5501 to 7500 and on July 25 for ranks 7501 to 16000.Details of the seats available in all medical colleges, government and private, will be displayed at all the counselling centres and on the university website.SC/ST candidates who secured A-category seats in government colleges and B-category seats in private unaided and non minority colleges are eligible for fee exemption. However, their parents’ income should not exceed Rs 1 lakh per annum.BC/OC and physically handicapped candidates selected for admission to government medical colleges and to A-category seats in private unaided non-minority colleges are eligible for fee exemption if their parents’ annual income is less than Rs 1 lakh, according to registrar T Venugopala Rao.For filing 85 percent local and 15 per cent unreserved seats the procedure prescribed in GO No: 646 and Go No: 42 will be followed.Detailed information is available on the university website http://ntruhs.ap.nic.in.
