CHENNAI: While med schools teach the students how to treat illnesses and cure patients, the curriculum remains largely silent on how to be a medical entrepreneur and build a state-of-the-art heath care facility, observed Dr S Manivannan, Joint Managing Director, Kauvery Hospital, Trichy, the man behind Medicall-the A-Z expo on medical infrastructure, as the countdown begins for its seventh edition.Dr Manivannan said, “India, for long, did not have an indigenous platform where all medical suppliers and healthcare builders could interface and explore all vistas of growth for their aspirations. The medical colleges have also failed to guide the students who want to build their own health care facilities. These gaps were the inspiration behind Medicall, which we started in 2005 with only 70 exhibitors in the first year. This year, we expect over 400 exhibitors from both local and global industries.”He also said that Medicall, as a platform, will benefit medical professionals from Tier-II and Tier-III cites who want to take the latest sophisticated treatment technology to the people of these smaller cities. “In India, the supply demand gap is huge. Apart from the government hospitals, there are only a few private hospitals that provide a holistic set up and most of these hospitals are located only in the metros. So, for every complex complication, people from small towns and cities have to travel all the way to the metros to get treatment. I hope Medicall will address this issue.”Over 400 exhibitors will display A-Z requirements for a hospital at Medicall 2011 and it will also provide a platform for suppliers, architects, builders and doctors to interact, explore and acquire information in their respective domains of expertise. They are also having seminars on various subjects such as hospital construction, innovations in healthcare, lean six sigma healthcare. Medicall 2011 will be held from Aug 12 to Aug 14 at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam. For more details, visit www.medicall.in or call 42109282.
