PALAKKAD: The ruling UDF Government should call an all-party meeting to sort out the self-financing college imbroglio, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran has said. He was speaking after inaugurating the reception hosted by the District Congress Committee (DCC) for Devaswom and Transport Minister V S Sivakumar and the UDF MLAs from the district, here on Sunday.Ramachandran said the government should hold talks with the Inter-Church Council only after reaching a consensus with all the parties. On the lottery scam, he said there would be a CBI inquiry into the issue and the delay was owing to the double standard of the previous LDF Government. If the LDF Government had made its stand clear, the Centre would have acted then itself, the minister added. Ramachandran said the protest by people such as Anna Hazare was being sponsored by organisations like the BJP and the RSS, intending to bypass the parliamentary system.The UPA Government was stern on fighting corruption and that was evident from the arrest of leaders like Suresh Kalmadi, for the CWG scam, and M K Kanimozhi, for the 2G scam, he said. Ramachandran said there was a need for introspection in the UDF for securing fewer seats than expected in the Assembly polls. It was expected that the UDF would get at least 90 seats, but won only 72, he said.
