BANGALORE: Director of Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Minto Ophthalmic Hospital, Dr K S Sriprakash will be the next vice chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. He will hold the post for a period of three years commencing July 14, 2011 just after the tenure of current vice chancellor Dr S Ramananda Shetty comes to an end.
Dr Sriprakash will have a job on his hands since RGUHS has been surrounded by controversies like their common entrance test and counselling procedures, which have been under a cloud. He would also be leading the university into a new campus. The decision to appoint him as the vice chancellor was taken by the Governor's office after the threemember search panel submitted names to the Governor on Monday morning. Dr Sriprakash was a surprise inclusion as the names initially given to the search panel did not prominently feature him but with each passing day, more names were added to the list leading to hectic lobbying by several parties.
