Mumbai: The Shiv Sena-Shah Rukh Khan face-off seems to have emboldened Bollywood and now the film fraternity has decided to take on the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
Mumbai Police have arrested 11 MNS workers after Producer Ritesh Sidhwani's film unit filed an FIR against some MNS activists for allegedly extorting money from them during the shooting of the film Crooked.
Sidhwani's film unit reportedly refused to pay extortion money to the MNS and instead lodged an FIR against the party workers.
The film unit claimed that 11 MNS workers came on the sets of the Abhishek Bachchan-starrer at Mehboob Studios and demanded Rs 25 lakh.
On the other hand MNS workers alleged that the producer had hired outsiders for the film's shoot and threatened that the unit pay up if it wanted to continue the shooting.
MNS has, however, denied that its workers tried extorting money from the film unit
"At Mehboob Studios, 136 foreigners are working. We asked for work permits, they did not have them. Was Bandra police informed about these foreign artistes from Iran, Afghanistan etc? This is a false allegation. The police have framed MNS workers," said MNS film cell chief Ameya Khopkar.
