Money trail: BJP, Cong demand probe
Cong's Abhishek Manu Singhvi says it's a serious matter, BJP's Arun Jaitely demands probe into Congress party.

New Delhi: A day after CNN-IBN investigation revealed the details of how money was made in the Oil-for-Food scam, political reactions have started pouring in.

Documents with CNN-IBN exposed the Volcker trail leading right into the inner circle of former external affairs minister Natwar Singh and revealed how the people who made money in the scam were mostly related to Singh.

After the revelations, even the Congress is of the view that some action should be taken.

"These are some very important and significant facts. But they should be fed first to the commission set up in India. Certainly if they found true, it's true or not. All legal consequences will flow in the event of them being proved true," Congress Spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said.

The BJP went a step further and demanded that the Government should initiate criminal proceedings against the guilty.

"The Congress part needs to be investigated for the following reasons. Firstly, Mr Natwar Singh did not go to Iraq in his private capacity. He went there as the leader of Congress party delegation. Secondly, he wrote to letters to the Iraqi minister not in his private capacity but as the in-charge of the foreign affairs cell of the Congress party," BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley said.

And even as political reactions pour in thick and fast, the investigators from Enforcement Directorate are also preparing to submit their final report on the oil-for-food scam in the next 10 days.
