HYDERABAD: The state government has agreed to rename the Nagole depot on Metro Rail corridorIII as Uppal Metro Rail depot. The renaming was done following a representation from the Uppal landowners where Metro Rail depot is located.A notification has been issued by the Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N V S Reddy on Saturday regarding the change of name.It may be recalled that the contentious issue of acquisition of grass lands near Musi at Uppal Bhagat and Ramanthapur Bhagat villages was earlier resolved by the government by allotting 1,000 sq.yds of developed plot for every acre of land acquired by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project (104 acres) and for Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (150 acres).Apart from development of a layout and allotment of developed plots to individual landowners, the other demand of the landowners was renaming of Nagole Metro Rail depot as Uppal Metro Rail depot since the depot is actually located at Uppal Bhagat village. When the farmers were initially agitating against land acquisition, NVS Reddy and other senior officers assured the landowners and Uppal MLA B Raji Reddy their demands would be positively considered and based on this assurance, most of the landowners willingly parted with their lands for the Metro depot.
