Narang in 10m Air Rifle final, Bindra exits
Bindra, the 2008 Beijing Games gold medalist, has failed to qualify for the 10m Air Rifle event.

London: Gagan Narang will be India's only shooter at the 10m Air Rifle finals after Abhinav Bindra, the country's shooting gold medalist in 2008, failed to make it past the qualifying event for the title he won in Beijing four years ago.

Narang shot a round of 598 to reach the finals on Monday but his team-mate Bindra failed to qualify for the 10m Air Rifle event at the Royal Artillery Barracks after putting in a disappointing performance.

Bindra shot a round of 594 in the qualifiers, getting three nines in the sixth and final round which ruined his chances of qualifying. He has struggled to confirm his supremacy over the past couple years, even slipping to 20th in the world rankings, but there widespread expectations that Bindra would defend the title he won on August 11, 2008.
