Pune: Parading as a deprived talent recognised by the NASA with a research scholarship, a class 12 boy in Kolhapur managed to hoodwink authorities to get money by producing fake documents, official sources said today.
Sridhar Kamble, who has just appeared for the 12th standard exam from Vivekanand college, caught the attention of the media with the claim that the NASA had selected him as a junior scientist after he submitted a research paper.
Sridhar, according to reports carried by media, had sent his paper on milky way and black holes after he passed the 10th standard conducted by Kolhapur HSC board.
Taking note of the plight of a brilliant but poor student who was unable to go the US to avail of the NASA fellowship for want of money, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh assured all necessary financial assistance to Sridhar to undertake the trip.
The cat was out of the bag when the state social welfare department started scanning his testimonials and certificates to initiate the process for his US trip.
It was then discovered that he had faked his marks in the 10th standard Board exam as well as the correspondence with NASA.
Confirming that Sridhar had manipulated his 10th standard marksheet with an inflated score of 93 per cent while his actual percentage was only 83, Ujjwala Patil, Chairman of Kolhapur HSC Board told PTI here that he had applied for a duplicate marksheet saying that he had lost the original.
"He must have forged the papers later," she added.
