BANGALORE: After 24 hours on the tree top, two men from Green Peace got down to submit a memorandum to the mayor requesting her to allow public consultation during road widening and other development activities by the BBMP.Green Peace activists Brikesh Singh and Shivalinga, after spending a full day on the tree top, were able to collect around 3,000 people for support between 2 pm on Sunday and 2 pm on Monday.According to Brikesh, they received support through SMS, phone calls and online petitions.“People from all walks of life in and around Sankey Tank Road stopped just to wish us.It was an overwhelming response. Many of them got down from cars just to give us a thumps up, which was motivating and aspiring,” he told. This included singer and actor Vasundhara Das as well.Brikesh mentioned that all they had was a bag full of apples, chocolates, cream buns and donuts and bottles of water.“Our volunteer below who were in a tent, provided for our three meals. We had two and half chapathis for dinner and one and half idlies for breakfast,” he adds. The duo could not sleep as it was very cold the entire night.“We feared the rain, which could have made our condition worse.Fortunately, it did not rain the previous night. However, due to the uncomfortable situation we could not sleep,” he adds. When asked about the nature calls, Brikesh said that they had taken tablets before climbing up the tree. The tablet can help avoid the requirement of using the washroom for up to 30 hours at a stretch.Brikesh is credit for being the first Indian to sit on the roof of the British Parliament for 27 hours in 2009, where he used the same method to avoid nature calls for such a long gap.Together with other fellow activist from Green Peace, he visited the BBMP mayor.“The mayor only said that the matter is in the court. She cannot talk. But will consider public consultation after the verdict,” he said
