Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday disposed of a habeas corpus petition filed by the parents of a devotee of Nityananda, after he deposed before the court that he was "not illegally detained" by the self-styled godman.
The court disposed of the petition filed by Munnur Krishnamurthy and Jayanthi after their son Santhosh said he had not been illegally detained, joined the ashram on his own will and refused to return home.
Observing that the devotee was a major who had every right to take personal decisions, a Division bench headed by Justice Dilip B Bhosale, however, orally advised Santhosh to meet his parents at least once in a while.
The petitioners had submitted that their son, a hotel management graduate, had become a disciple of Nityananda and was staying at his ashram in Bidadi in Ramangaram district since 2009.
The petitioners stated that of late they had not been able to contact their son at the ashram and that he was being "illegally detained" there and not allowed to come out to meet them. They had prayed for a direction to police to produce their son before the court.
