CHENNAI: The police on Monday denied a media report claiming that instructions had been issued to boarding houses in the city not to admit Sri Lankans after a few Sinhalese pilgrims were attacked in Vepery.A release issued by the police commissioner’s office said it was mandatory for hotels, guesthouses and lodges to submit full details of foreigners, including Lankans staying with them at the local police stations. The police could advise, warn or initiate action against defaulters. Referring to a recent incident, when members of three Lankan pilgrimage tour organisers staying at a guesthouse on Perambur Barracks Road, Purasaiwakkam were attacked, it said the management had failed to inform the police about the large group of Sinhalese pilgrims staying there. Had they been informed, they would have provided security, it added.Denying a newspaper report, the release said the police had not issued any instruction to hotels to refrain from admitting Lankan nationals.
