Washington: In an indication that the extradition of underworld don Abu Salem's first wife would not be an easy affair for India, the US on Tuesday said it did not extradite people for questioning.
Officials in the US stated that enough evidence was required in order to arrest and bring charges against Samira Jumani, especially since she is free and not in police custody.
"If it's a case of extradition of someone who's free and not in custody, you've basically got to decide whether there is enough evidence to arrest and bring charges against them. A country cannot simply extradite people for questioning," a senior US administration official said.
Officials in USA refused to confirm or deny reports that India was seeking Samira Jumani?s extradition, as they felt it would prejudice any ongoing legal case.
