CHENNAI: After lottery phishing mails, it’s the turn of spam SMS messages making rounds to cheat people. Everyone should be cautious about such SMSes, which are sent with fake account number and untraceable mobile numbers, said Abhay Kumar Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime and Headquarters. Speaking on the sidelines of an awareness camp on responsibilities and rights of consumer protection and public awareness here on Sunday, Singh said the messages with whopping price money are sent to people regardless of their positions. Asked whether the city police have registered any case in this regard, he replied in the negative. He also urged the public to be careful about phishing lottery emails. In his address, N Kanniah, general secretary, Southern Railway Mazdoor Union, condemned the hike in fuel prices. We are planning to take up this issue legally and a decision would be made at the forthcoming meeting of the association at Madurai, he said.
