Remembering the heroes who lost their lives in the terror attack, Modi on Wednesday saluted the brave security personnels who had laid down their lives to protect several lives on that fateful day. "They are our true heroes," said the PM.
Modi took to twitter to request everyone to pay homage to the innocent men and women who had lost their lives in the horrific terror attacks in Mumbai on this day in 2008.
In one of the most audacious terror attacks in the country, terrorists armed with AK-47s, grenades and low intensity bombs had struck at some of Mumbai's busiest and most opulent sites killing 101 people and injuring 187.
Café Leopold, The Taj Mahal Hotel, Hotel Trident, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Vile Parle and Mazegaon, Cama Hospital and Jewish headquarters were the places that were attacked by the terrorists.
Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare, who was spearheading the Malegaon bomb blast probe, Additional Commissioner Ashok Kamte and encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar were among the 11 police officials killed during gunbattle with the terrorists.
