New Delhi: Chinese handset maker Oppo has announced the launch of its thinnest smartphone in India at Rs 29,990. Named Oppo R5, the phone is a 4G-enabled model and is equipped with an octa-core Qualcomm MSM8939 processor and a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen. The Oppo R5 will be available for pre-booking in India from January 1, 2015 onwards.
Oppo said it uses what is called phase-change material that keeps it at a constant cool temperature while maintaining functionality. It lets you shoot with a maximum focus time of 0.18 seconds and delivers 50 megapixel, high-definition picture clarity, said Oppo.
The R5 also includes OPPO's VOOC mini rapid charging system, where a 30-minute charge will provide 75 per cent battery life and a five-minute charge will allow for a two-hour call.
Oppo is planning to build its own showrooms and exclusive stores shortly. It is aiming to have over 4,000 retail points in one year.
"We are targeting 200 service centres in the next one year and over 4,000 sales points," Oppo India CEO Tom Lu said.
With the Indian smartphone market growing at a good pace, Tom said that the company's aim is to ensure that it has a diversified product portfolio to meet the changing needs.
